Rihanna posted a photo of herself clutching an NFL football on Instagram shortly after the news broke to confirm it. Later, Roc Nation issued a statement in response to the information.

“Rihanna is a generational talent, a somebody who has outperformed expectations at every turn despite coming from modest beginnings. a person who was raised on the tiny island of Barbados and went on to become one of history’s most well-known artists. Jay-Z described himself as “self-made in business and entertainment.”

“We are excited to welcome Rihanna to the Apple music Super Bowl Halftime Show stage,” NFL Head of Music Seth Dudowsky stated. An artist of a generation’s worth, Rihanna has influenced culture all of her life. We are excited to work with Apple Music, Roc Nation, and Rihanna to provide fans another historically significant Halftime Show performance.

The announcement comes a few days after Taylor Swift reportedly declined an offer to perform at the Super Bowl. According to sources close to the artist, the singer won’t perform until her first six albums have been re-recorded.

Swift won’t be the show’s headlining act, according to sources close to her, according to both People and TMZ, despite rumors from Swift’s fans and a Variety piece that explored the potential. The first rumors surfaced earlier this week, with many pointing to the impending release of her new album Midnights and the NFL’s deal with Apple Music as potential indicators.
