GFA bans referees

The planned 2022 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) in Algeria will not have a Ghanaian center referee in attendance.

The Black Galaxies, who will represent Ghana, are one of 18 nations expected to take part in the biennial continental competition designed especially for athletes who compete in their home country.

But none of its current ten (six male and four female) Fifa-listed knights of the whistle could win the competition as a match official.

Following completion of a recent CHAN preparatory course by the Confederation of African Football (Caf), up to 18 men and one woman have been chosen as center referees.

In addition, 12 other officials will administer the rule using the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system, together with 19 men and 2 women assistant referees.

From January 13 to February 4, 2023, the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) 2022 will take place.
