A FIRE has erupted at a fish and chip shop in Edinburgh this morning.
Fire and rescue crews raced to the scene in the capital’s Summerhall Place just after 11.30am.
The blaze broke out at Franco’s Fish and chip shop.
Images show huge flames coming from the front of the premises.
And huge clouds of black smoke can be seen billowing from the shop.
Emergency crews are still at the scene and the cause is not yet known.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 11.34am on Monday, 8 August to reports of a fire affecting commercial premises and adjoining property on Summerhall Place, Edinburgh.
“Operations Control has mobilised a number of appliances and a height vehicle to the scene, where crews remain in attendance as they work to extinguish the fire.”
It’s not clear if there have been any injuries so far.
An eye-witness took to Twitter when he saw the blaze, saying: “Horrifying-looking fire at Franco’s Fish & Chips in Summerhall Place next to Drouthy Neebors. I hope everyone got out safely. The fire service are on their way!”
He told The Scottish Sun: “It’s a pretty major fire by Summerhall. I didn’t want to take photos, but the roads are all shut.
“Whole block on fire, and multiple ambulance and serious incident units on site. I was in a show – came out and could smell it everywhere.”
