Former Member Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia North Constituency, Hon Collins Owusu Amankwa has predicted that, Ghana’s 2024 general election is going to see a similar situation like what happened in Nigeria.
According to him, just as the ruling party in Nigeria, All Progressive Congress (APC) broke the 8, the NPP in Ghana will also break the 8 come 2024 general elections.
“What happened in the Nigerian election will happen in Ghana”, Hon Collins Owusu Amankwa has said.
Backing his agumet with historical antecedents, Mr Collins Owusu Amankwa noted that, what I’m trying to say is that, what happened in the Nigerian election will happen in Ghana”
“Former President Kufuor came with Obasanjo, after Prof Mills came with Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and they both died on the seat of President. When they left, Former President John Mahama came with Goodluck Jonathan and all had only one term. Then came Nana Addo and Buhari thereafter. When the time came for Nigerians to vote to elect a new president, they elected Bola Ahmed Tinubu.” Hon Colllins Owusu Amankwah narrated analysed on Kumasi-based Hello FM in an interview monitored by MyNewsGH.com.
What do we know so far about the Nigeria elections?
In the just-ended Nigeria election, the ruling party’s candidate Bola Tinubu was declared the winner.
The 70-year-old veteran politician Bola Tinubu got 37% of the vote while his main rival Atiku Abubakar polled 29%, and Labour’s Peter Obi 25%.
Mr Tinubu is one of Nigeria’s richest politicians, and based his campaign on his record of rebuilding the biggest city, Lagos, when he was governor.
Mr Tinubu won most other states in his home region of the south-west, where he is known as a “political godfather” – for helping to put others into office.
He campaigned for the presidency under the slogan: “Emi lo kan”, which means “It’s my turn” in Yoruba.
Meanwhile, some also argue that, looking at the economic situation in Ghana of which the ruling party NPP has been accused of causing, it would be difficult to break the 8 as they wish.
